Hi guys, in todays post I’m going to show you how I upgraded my DC Ho scale Kato Metra F40PH to DCC sound. This install was quite simple and not very expensive either. I installed a Digitrax SDH164K1C drop in sound decoder. Digitrax made this install quite easy, you just slip the old DC board out and slide the sound board in and connect the track clips and motor clips into the board. Then gently push the speaker into the baffle that is already included in the locomotives shell. After you have done all these steps and made sure everything is secured correctly so their is good connectivity. Then you can put the locomotive on the track and the decoder should be set to address 3 then you can start up the locomotive. The locomotive sounds quite loud with the baffle and the bell and horn are proto typically accurate at least from my standpoint. The only problem I have is if your running the locomotive and blowing the horn for a while and ringing the bell at the same time the decoder shorts out. You can fix this by changing a CV in the decoder programing, the CV number you need to change is in the manual. Overall Digitrax did a great job at making a sound decoder at a great price, easy installation, and sounds great! Thanks for listening to this review and see you later. I will include a video of this locomotive running with the decoder inside of it!
This decoder costs $50-$75!
